V (not for Vendetta, but for Victory)

I got in the mail yesterday the miniseries V and V: The Final Battle. At the beginning of each installment of the first miniseries is this dedication:
These movies would never be made in today's political climate, especially carrying such a dedication. It's like sending out a salute to the Iraqi insurgents. The message of V is a bit heavy-handed at times, but I think a big slap in the face is exactly what we all need right about now.
It's like I always said, whether or not you're dubbed a terrorist depends on which side you're on. Americans who don't see this now are either blind, stupid, or have a vested interest in the current administration's totalitarian policies.
To the heroism of the
Resistance Fighters
--past, present, and future--

Date: 2006-03-24 12:35 am (UTC)Now I've gotten to enjoy it again, finally, on DVD. Fantastic stuff. Well...minus, perhaps, when it descends into the weird "star child" business near the end. Felt kinda...eeh...a bit much compared to the 'realism' of the rest of the show, but that was mostly because Ken Johnson (http://kennethjohnson.us/V-Orig.html) (creator) didn't write 'Final Battle' (or so he said on the commentary track). But otherwise it has yet to be topped.
NBC recently said they wanted to revisit V, so they contacted Ken. He wrote a screenplay for a "next generation" of sorts with most of the key players signing on, but unfortunately they're dicking him around and now they want "a remake" before they do a sequel. What complete assholes.
Also of note, but hardly new, is this script (http://slithytoves.sytes.net/~dthiel/visitor/visitorrebirth.htm) penned by the creator of Babylon 5 sometime in the early 90's or so (I think). Damned good for the intro alone, and a real shame it will never be realized on the screen.
