Drought

tinhuvielartanis: (Here is the news!)
About two hours ago, we got a call from my aunt, Janice, alerting us that there had been a water main break at the head of the main road off which we dwell. The break is so bad that the road itself was bowed up from the amount of water and pressure. I filled the tub up with water and filled as many jugs and jars as I could lay my hand on. Aunt Tudi also filled our Brita and we filled up the animals' water containers. Who knows when we'll get our water back, if we get it back at all tonight? Here's the news story and actual footage. The footage is from about a half a mile from my house. It's not as if this place was enough of a swamp as is...now, it's like we're living in the Charlie Daniels Band's "Legend of Woolly Swamp!" It wouldn't surprise me to witness an alligator float by.

In the meantime, we're trying to refrain from using the bathroom and I'm attempting to quell my thirst. The minute we lost water, I became parched. My mind is way too open to suggestion. It's never a dull day in Duncan!

If you zone in on the aerial map, the road next to Harrison, Pauls Drive, is my road. You can see my house from outer space!

Drought!

SJWD Water District has imposed mandatory water restrictions on us because the drought has gotten much worse. We haven't had rain for 19 days straight now. It's rather alarming.
What really ticks me off is to see these big businesses watering their lawns when drought has been so prevalent for so long. Now we are all on restriction because The Man wanted a pretty lawn. grrrrrrrrrrrrr...........

I sit here at work, surrounded by mailings to promote artists who are nothing but corporate commodities to people who probably aren't concerned and can't be bothered with listening to the music I'm pushed to send out ASAP, and all I can dream about is water ~ crashing on the shores, bubbling in peaceful ponds cooled by dense plant growth, coursing determinedly over stones and dried wood, threading out across the mountains into lush valleys....
I want to be in the water, beside the water, near the water.
We are now in a severe drought alert here in SC. I haven't seen rain in weeks. It's depressing to see the sun every single day...to be locked in this antiseptic office only to walk out into the glaring oppression of the relentless heat and cloudless sky.
A local radio station is running a contest today where the 93rd caller wins a 4 or 5 day trip to Cancun. When I hear the song of the day, I'm calling...as frantically as I can. I want to run off to where the water is clear turquoise and the sand is fine and white.
I really need to immerse in water and forget the world.
