Electric Light Orchestra "Eldorado"
Here it comes, another lonely day, playing the game,
I'll sail away on a voyage of no return to see
if eternal life is meant to be
and if I find the key to the eternal dream.
The painted ladies of the Avalon play in the sun,
take to the road, to the North there lies the chills of cold,
to the South there lies the tales untold.
But in between there lies the place to close your eyes.
And I will stay, I'll not be back, Eldorado.
I will be free of the world, Eldorado.
Say goodbye, the city's heroes sing, bird on the wing
feel, feel so free through the life upon the rooftop haze,
all the cheating and the broken days.
So through it all I see there's nothing left for me.
So I will stay, I'll not be back, Eldorado.
I will be free of the world, Eldorado.
Sitting here on top of everywhere, what do I care.
Days never end, I know the voyage's end will soon be here,
no eternal life is here for me.
And now I found the key to the eternal dream.
Then I will stay, I'll not be back, Eldorado.
I will be free of the world, Eldorado.
Then I will stay.
This has been my funeral song for thirty years. I don't want any other song played, really. Just this one. It's very special to me and says everything I want to say in death. I hope I won't be back this time around. I hope I've done my time reincarnating and that this is my last mortal sojourn. It's time to remain in Avalon.

I was always loyal to my Electric Light Orchestra. Whilst most were mooning over the band du jour, I was stuck like glue to ELO. And I can still sing the French in this song har har har.

My eyes flew open at 6:40 and I immediately had the Apostate on my mind. I'm working up to Orphaeus evoking a new memory for Cadmus just as I'm about to finish the tale of the Apostate. It's working out amazingly well. Once I position the Apostate's tale, my word count will jump a good 2 to 2.5k. Of course, that's nothing compared to Heidi's inhuman word count on any regular day of the week, but I'm still happy with my meager offering to the Muses.
I got hold of Aunt Tudi's spare cane and am using that instead of the walker. I hated that walker! Problem is, having the cane has turned me into House. I'm walking around, my cane in tune with the bad leg, popping Vicodin, and being misanthropic. Something tells me that my counselor would not be happy. That reminds me, I need to do my homework. Meh.
Lynn has started up a contest to win various Electric Light Orchestra-related items. She's posting trivia questions that, if answered correctly, gets you placed in a drawing. Whomever name is drawn wins the item available at the time. Right now, it's a tee shirt relating to "Hold on Tight" and the new ELO site, ELO.biz. I answered the trivia question, but I'm not sure I answered correctly. I guess we'll find out sooner rather than later. I'm pretty excited about this contest though, 'cos I fancy I know tons of ELO trivia. I just hope I haven't forgotten the majority of it over the years.
I've gotten myself some tea and I've had my meds. It's time to settle in and get some more writing done. Happy Tuesday to everyone and an extra O_0 dose of what-the-fuck to my fellow LOST fans. Tonight's the night for another hour-long OMFG session.
Whisper in the Night
Jul. 29th, 2009 05:04 pmWhisper in the night
Over silent evening air
Angel's gown shines white
All at once you're glad she's there
Daughter of your dream shine a guiding light for me
For I'll be here till light
Whisper in the night
Till she has forgiven me
Night turns into gold
So the tide may turn today
Though God gave the world
It's not mine to throw away
Daughter of your dream shine a guiding light for me
For I'll be here till light
Whisper in the night
Till she has forgiven me
La da da -- da
Whisper in the night
Till she has forgiven me
Help to face what the day may bring
Angels sing
You were sent to make the night be kind
What will I find
Snowflake bird she came
Taking grey clouds from your door
Face the midnight sun
You have something to live for
Daughter of your dream shine a guiding light for me
For I'll be here till light
Whisper in the night
Till she has forgiven me
La da da -- da
Whisper in the night
Till she has forgiven me

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - For a musician who claims to live a leisurely existence, rocker Jeff Lynne has plenty of projects on his plate.
The brains behind the '70s art-rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) recently took a break from sessions for his first solo album in almost two decades to produce songs for quirky folk singer/songwriter Regina Spektor. He also has plans to write and record with Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh.
The bearded Birmingham native has kept a relatively low profile since the 2001 album "Zoom," which was credited to ELO but was essentially a Lynne solo work. Sales were poor, and a scheduled arena tour was cancelled.
But Lynne's legacy as the writer and producer of such ELO tunes as "Livin' Thing" and "Mr. Blue Sky" is secure. And then there was his tenure with the Traveling Wilburys, not to mention his collaborations on solo works by fellow Wilburys George Harrison, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison.
As for his own album, he hopes to release it later this year. It would be his official solo follow-up to 1990's "Armchair Theatre."
"It's coming, gradually," Lynne, 61, said in a recent interview with Reuters. "I can do 'em quick, but it depends whether you want 'em good or quick!"
It is indeed a solo work, with Lynne playing all the instruments apart from the occasional violin or cello. As is his wont, he will be tinkering with the project right up until the last minute, and accordingly declined to reveal any titles.
Lynne will emerge from his hilltop home-recording studio compound on Friday when performing rights group ASCAP presents him with its Golden Note Award for lifetime achievement during its annual expo in Hollywood. Lynne will in turn discuss his 40-year career at a Q&A session. His advice to musicians?
"You've just got to love it. You can't really do it unless you love it to bits, and you'd rather be doing it than anything else. That's what I've found. I'm still getting thrilled with music even after 40 years of doing it professionally. The hairs stand up on the back of my neck at certain music."
One of those hair-raising experiences occurred recently when Lynne was working with Spektor. He was busy with his own album, but could not resist the opportunity to put his stamp on some songs she had sent him. He produced five tunes, since working on a whole album would have taken upwards of a year.
But even those five songs proved to be a challenge because Spektor had been performing them live for several years and had definite ideas about how they should sound on disc.
"Yeah, and I had to sorta change her mind! No, not really," Lynne said. "She was very open-minded actually about it. That's why she asked me to do it, to see what I would bring to the party, as it were."
Lynne said he has planning to work with Walsh for some time, but the guitarist has been kept busy touring and recording with the Eagles.
"I love Joe. He's a terrific guy, and we'll probably mess around and come up with some ideas together."
15 Album Meme pt. 1
Mar. 19th, 2009 10:56 am![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Think of 15 albums that had such a profound effect on you they changed your life. Dig into your soul. Music that brought you to life when you heard it. Then when you finish, tag 15 others, including me. Make sure you copy and paste this part so they know the drill.
I'm not tagging anyone. Do this only if you want to. I would ask that, if you do do, drop me a link to your post, on account of I'm curious about what your albums are. Anyways, here are my 15, in no particular order.
- Xanadu Soundtrack: It officially introduced me to ELO and was instrumental in my becoming a Witch because of the Goddess influence on the whole Xanadu project.
- Eldorado by the Electric Light Orchestra: The title track to this album is the song I want played at my funeral. It's that important to me. I still consider myself a dreamer, an unwoken fool.
- The Dancing Years by Shriekback: This is a compilation of Shriek songs and is usually reviled by most Shriekback fans, particularly the purists who didn't appreciate Barry's reinterpretations of original Shriek songs. This album was influential for me because of one of those reinterpretations, "Deeply Lined Up." It was this song that created Cadmus Pariah in my sick and twisted mind. Within 8 minutes of that song, my best and most terrifying character was born. I haven't been right since and that was in 1990.
- Big Night Music by Shriekback: Every song on this album (except for 'Pretty Little Things') sang to my soul and inspired much writing. The liner notes in this album were also very important to me on a spiritual level. I was still a Dedicant when I came to Big Night Music, so the written intro to the album (composed by Barry Andrews, of that I have no doubt), helped me to understand the path on which I wanted to tread. I'm still treading that path, still 'celebrating the blessed dark, the place I was always most at home.'
- The Wall by Pink Floyd: When I realised I was going mad back in the 80s, this was my soundtrack. After having discovered Syd Barrett and his story, I thoroughly related and looked into my on abyss. The Wall became my soundtrack and My Friend Todd and I would listen to it religiously, singing every single word. Dark and delightful times those were.
