THE TALE OF THE STRONG SUN MOON
Once a great meteor fell to Eterah and brought with it a doom upon the terrible Dhryn, massive beasts that ruled the world with their cruel strength. Only the Tarmi and the Dragons survived the meteor, for the Tarmi had constructed Şaa, underground dwellings where they hid from the meteor's wrath. And the Dragons retreated to Sleep among the bones of Meneterah and dream the Dream of Earth. To this day we await their Awakening.
Eterah was plunged into a death dream, for the meteor's clouds chased away the starsun and the moon. The Deities became lost in the darkness of the meteor ever after called Lightsbane.
Now Vaaedel, the Goddess of Death and Rebirth, walked the body of Eterah, her white visage looming in the minds of the Tarmi. And so they studied Her Mysteries deep beneath the quiet surface of the World.
Even though Vaadel found peace roaming in the Darkness, She knew that She must release Meneterah back into the realms of Life. But Vaadel could not find Baurelien the Plant Mother to grow the Green, nor could She find Rhynnil to spin the wind to banish the dark clouds. So Vaadel waited and, while waiting, whispered to the Tarmi chants of the Realms beyond Her dark veils.
By chance once day Vaadel found walking in the valleys created by Lightsbane Htanna the Sky God, who had fashioned Etereh's starsun. And She called to Him, "Lord Htanna, You are a very happy vision. Know you where the Others are?"
"White Lady, is that You?" I can see naught for my Light, it is gone. No others have spoken to Me out into the long dark night."
Vaadel went to Him and guided Htanna out of the meteor Valley. She led Him through the waterfalls to the forested peaks of the Mountains of Wind. Once there, They rested and spoke of Eterah.
"The planet must live so that the Tarmi may thrive," Vaadel said to Htanna. "Bet Eterah cannot survive with the Gods and Goddesses walking lost in the Darkness. You, Htanna, must summon the starsun. Bring it blow the meteor clouds."
But Htanna replied, "White Lady, my sun would destroy Meneterah should it come so close. The heat would turn Her to Ash, and the Tarmi with Her."
Vaadel almost smiled. "Nay," she said. "For I shall place the death chill upon it. Your sun shall emanate only strong and healing light until we may find the Others."
Lord Htanna nodded in agreement. He stood and raised His golden arms skyward and song the Song of the Sun, as black-veiled Vaaedel danced the Death Chill Reel. With a deep thundering, the sun split the clouds and came forth, issuing a light to surround Eterah that was so bright that even the Tarmi in their underground Şaas had to shade their eyes. The sun returned Htanna's song and He could see once more. His great sun eyes smiled upon the frail white Vaadel who danced still to ease the starsun's boundless heat. Around the world Light sang.
And the Gods and Goddesses saw one another and united to heal Eterah. Rhynnil spun the dark clouds into the blue sky. Mother Mneviva summoned forth Meneterah's Children, the animals, and sang the moon back and in Full, so that would coax the waters and clean the world. Baurelian awoke the sleeping seeds, and Rhahva the Bardess remade her birds to herald in song the New Day.
Htanna's starsun burned with a cold fury, lighting the way for the Deities to set thing aright. And slowly did the sun return to its place in the upper regions and grow warm as Htanna and Vaadel reversed their magicks until a clear starry night illumined by the Full Moon of Mnemiva remained.
And so Eterah was healed of Lightsbane's wound, and Tarmi resurfaced to find that Summer had arrived. And finding this to be so, they blessed the Full Moon with the name Lum'Arda'Hothwen, the Strong Sun Moon, to honour the Deities in their travails. But especially did they honour the White Lady Vaadel and the Sunsummoner Htanna for the healing light that Eterah may be reborn.
