XTC, 34 Years Ago

It boggles my mind that this footage still exists, and in such excellent shape. Here's a very young XTC performing songs on French television. The footage is circa 1978 and features a very young Andrews on a very abused saxophone. Andy Partridge is already exhibiting what a brilliant individual he would later on become. I needn't say that about Andrews.

Love, LOVE, the sax. And B does a good job of squeezing some musical stuff out of it. It's a difficult instrument which he appears to have wrangled at a relatively tender age. That's impressive. Too bad the audio is not synched up to the video but for 1978? It's pretty amazing.

Near the end of his association with XTC, B would often pull out the sax and play that instead of keyboards. It's rumoured that he did this just to piss Andy off. Who knows? :)

XTC is one of my big faves, and one other of the writers here is also a huge XTC fan...

I sing '1000 umbrellas' to myself at least once a week. We're all light, Summer's Cauldron, Grass, Earn Enough for Us, Senses working overtime, and my personal fave 'another satellite'

Whooooaaaa! 'Another Satellite' is my favourite of theirs. And 'My Bird Performs.' That is just a ridiculously lovely song.
