tinhuvielartanis: (Cadmus Pariah)

I'm almost 4000 words into "Isobel" and she is about accept Cadmus' offer to join him in the hunt. My dilemma is that I'm wondering how long the hunt will be. I don't want any one hunt with another Vampire or human turned Vampire to last too very long. Cadmus has little patience with others despite his newfound need for companionship. With his newfound emotions, you could say he has become a player. I have named the collection of shorts The Harming Tree for Barry's homemade musical instrument/art piece. I will, of course, ask him if I can continue to use this before proceeding in trying to get the stories published. For what the Harming Tree is in the stories, the title fits perfectly. Before I go further with this, I may go ahead and approach him with the idea. By now, I'm sure he's used to my associating gruesome concepts with him, poor man.

Last night, I posted a picture of Tom Hardy as Shinzon. This picture in fact.

One of my Facebook friends made mention that the picture was not one of Barry Andrews. O_O Does Tom Hardy look like Barry Andrews?! I realise a lot of people think that all bald men look alike, but good god on a popsicle stick, I can't bear to think about that. He's my primary choice to play Cadmus and, yes, Cadmus was deeply influenced more by my irrational fears of Barry Andrews thanks to an overactive imagination, but still. Am I that blind? It's kind of put a damper on my enthusiasm about The Singing Tree because I was drawing more from Tom Hardy for a human Cadmus than I was Barry Andrews. Not saying B isn't human, god no. He's a good soul. I love him dearly. It's just that I've seen more expression in Tom Hardy's eyes than in Barry's, his being an actor and all, and that bespeaks a humanity that Cadmus has not yet come to grips with, but is learning and will learn more with each consecutive companion. So here's a little poll. Please be honest and comment on your decision if you feel a need to. Maybe I'm too close to the situation to "get it." I don't know. I need the help of objective souls.

I've also added a picture of Mr. Andrews for those who aren't sure what he looks like (like [livejournal.com profile] stacye13).

[Poll #1705409]

It's funny that I addressed Cadmus' sexuality yesterday and this morning I discovered that Tom Hardy mentioned experimenting sexually as a young man. The overlap is gratifying to me and makes what I'm trying to do here all the more enjoyable and realistic for me. Cadmus will be taking both female and male companions and he will be doing more than hunting with them. There's all manner of debauchery in store, if I have my way, all involving blood, of course.

In the meantime, I want to try to finish the first story of Isobel today. The next story in collection will the tale of Artus, a young mortal taken under Cadmus' dark wing and taught the art of the Vampire. Needless to say, it will end badly but, I hope, deliciously.

Don't you need a pic of the other guy for comparison? I don't know what he looks like...

You mean, after all these years, you don't know what Barry looks like? Here he is.

Ok then, I'm going with no. The first dude is young and has just a smidge of the gayface. Older dude does not.

I think there is an obvious resemblence.

Shape of head, a little bit of the ears - bald is a given.. 8^) Kinda like a brother thing.

Going from just these few pictures I would say they definitely are very similar looking; from the shape of the head (even the placement and shape of the EARS) to the spacing of the eyes, nose, mouth, et cetera. As someone who spent countless hours making maps of human facial proportions for one of my classes, I would hope I know what I'm talking about...

Their noses look slightly different, if that's any consolation... XD

But my question is, why is that bad? Since these men are both influences on your character, wouldn't it be a good thing that they share a noticeable facial resemblance? Even if you didn't notice it; it only means you have a very clear idea of Cadmus in your head and were drawn to people that embodied his features.

I noticed the same thing with Mal and Patrick Wilson (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CeMBuGqR_44/SzE9fcu5h9I/AAAAAAAAA8Q/mbfnMLR10rk/s400/patrickuli22.JPG) when I was watching one of his movies and went, "Oops, looks like I subconsciously stole this guy's face for my character..." The same way that you were drawn to these two for the attitudes they embody in their work, I was unknowingly drawn to Wilson for the way he (usually) portrays naive, kindhearted people who get the emotional crap kicked out of them (a la, Mal)

Again, just curious why this connection seems to disturb you when as far as I can tell, you should be thrilled!

I guess I'm trying to separate a little from Barry because I really don't want to end up creeping him out on any level. In my head, Cadmus looks a great deal different from B, being extremely Elven and, until recently, emotionless. And, dreamer that I am, I would love this to be a movie someday and Tom Hardy is the perfect age to play the Pariah. It just ticks me off when I fail to see the obvious.

I'm looking at the face, T, not the head, and I do see a similarity.

I'm not sure why this is a bad thing. I think it makes sense. Especially if Tom is an actor and B is not. Barry inspired you...and as an artist I would think he'd be flattered more so than creeped out. :) (Unless of course you start showing up on his doorstep, heheh) It also makes sense that Tom should share a similar look with B since Cadmus has that look, yes?

I'd be more confused if you chose someone that looked very different from B. If it helps at all...Tom's face is more heart shaped (wider forehead, narrower chin) and Barry's is more square (forehead to jawline).

In these photos, at least, there is a noticeable intensity in Tom's eyes/face, more so than in Barry's. (Tho Barry does have lovely eyes...I'm an eyes girl. :D )

It's not necessarily a bad thing. I just don't want to be pegged as a nutter. And we did sort of showed up on a doorstep of a mutual friend, if that counts for anything. :/

Tom seems to have that intensity with or without the hair, which made me make my final choice for whom I wanted to play Cadmus Pariah. I'm curious how he'll play Bane and hate that he'll be bulking back up for the role, but that's what he does so, so be it.

It's strange. Cadmus was born of my fear of Barry Andrews and the role of the character was chosen out of my fascination for Tom Hardy. Neither is necessarily attraction in the traditional sense of the word, but they seem to be linked to a creation that has definitely capture my heart.

Thank you for your honesty.

No problemo. :) I could never be anything but honest when dealing with someone's passion for something they enjoy. :)

I'll be sure to check Tom out in other things, I already saw him in the Star Trek role he played...and we usually hit the comic-movies, so I'm sure I'll see him as Bane as well.

It really is fascinating to see your process and thoughts on your books and inspirations. :) I really have got to get my hands on your book as soon as I have some frakking money. :P

Maybe a couple similar features, but overall as awhole I wouldn't say they look alike. The closest thing I can think of is maybe they pass as being related in some way, but certainly would not call them twins.
(As I now must muse over people thinking all bald men look alike. That's sort of funny to me given that I only once had a thing for a bald guy. Well two guys if you count the fact that the non-fictional one who used to work with me DID completely look like Lex Luthor on Smallville. But yeah, I don't see other blad guys and automatically think they look like Lex. Nor do I even try to compare them. ...but I digress. :P)

Yeah, definitely some kind of denial going on, since we've talked about Cadmus's resemblance to B forever (and also, of course, his failure to look identical to him). There is a real resemblance between Tom and Barry, probably more in fact than between Tom and Patrick Stewart. But they don't look like the same person, not even when B was young. I agree with the "relative" thing. You could probably find a picture of Finn quite easily where he looks like Tom's little brother. But there's no reason for that to be upsetting, because Tom and B don't look identical, and Tom is in any case not Cadmus. (I mean, how squicked are you gonna be if you ever meet Tom? Hopefully not beyond reason.)

I just don't want to be pegged as a nutter, you know? And I doubt I'll ever meet Tom Hardy, not where I am and what I'm doing. It would be nice to have a movie made with him as Cadmus, but I don't see it ever happening. I'm just a dreamer. Funny, when I wrote Cadmus as a very young man with long black hair, the image of him turned out to be that of Finn when I finally saw him. I was understandably freaked out.

I can see a physical resemblence in very vague terms, but when I look at both of them - at this point in my life, having had you on internet stalking status since 2001 - when I look at either of them, I'm looking for Cadmus.

So I can't honestly say if they look alike because they're tapping into the same mythopoememeic interweb in my brain, or if I can say they look alike because they do.

When I look at them individually, they do not look like each other at all. And I'm well versed in distinguishing bald men.

I can't really vote in the poll cause there's no option for "kinda". Put side-by-side and asked, I can see some resemblance, but it's not notable enough for me to have seen it on my own.
