tinhuvielartanis: (Andy Partridge)

When I initially saw this online chit-chat between Barry Andrews and Andy Partridge, I still had dial-up and no chance of ever listening to it. It was until only recently that I remembered the podcasts and clicked part one with mighty joy.

These two together are hilarious. It's stream-of-consciousness lunacy and brilliance at it's best. It kind of reminded me of how Todd and I used to communicate, but with different in-jokes and more smarts.

The one thing that struck me about these conversations was that it was quite obvious that Andy Partridge is the dominant of the two. I always thought that Barry Andrews would have been the dominant one. I guess because of the Jedi/Sith mythology I've placed on their respective musical styles. But, no, there's no mistaking who monopolises the conversation.

This makes it easier for me to have accidentally anchored Andy Partridge to the Apostate. Cadmus, literally created and partially fathered by the Apostate, eventually rebels against his master and could very well end up killing him. But there's always that niggling voice of acquiescence in his mind because the Apostate is the dominant of the two. To see (or rather hear) this is the actual case between the two whose spiritual batteries drive the characters is very helpful in my ability to write the dynamic between Cadmus and the Apostate. Take away the friendly banter and the good nature, and you have the dark mage and his hateful creation.

Oh what fun!

...just remember... 'dominate' is NOT the same thing as domineering! I guarantee you that Mr Andrews is the dominant one of the two... seriously, when Mr Partridge is talking what's the point of fighting? "Resistance if Futile!" :D ...and I say that with the utmost of respect..

Dunno about that. Partridge was instrumental in corrupting Barry. B had never seen porn before Andy introduced it to him. Scandalous.

...well my 17 year old cousin thought it was a big kick to make me look at porno when I was 9 ..he was an insecure idiot trying to feel powerful, especially when at age 9 I was already dominant to his personality. He turned out in life to be an adult with a big mouth and no real sense of self. Unless his identity was drinking to drunkeness and getting arrested.

You read Mr A's blog where he talks about during the recording of "Cormorant" Mr P asks about his "Sea Theory?" I think the dominant personality shows up quite well... part of Mr P's need to control EVERYTHING is based on an insecurity about fucking up and not being worthy. Mr A took his time off music and introspected... coming back like the powerhouse he always was. Mr P is still gyrating between yesterday's "failures" and tomorrows... He may get his mojo back if he surrenders to passion. Otherwise his brain will dash him from one wall to the next...

Yeah, that friendship has always been fierce, volatile. But I believe it's a lifelong friendship, despite the ups and downs. It sort of reminds me of my best friend and myself. We've been vicious with one another at times, but we always come back. And I have read Barry's blog. I tend to go where he goes online, not in a stalkerish way. I do it in order to keep him informed of fan activity and keep fans informed of B activity. It's something I've done for a over a decade now. And, since I used to run barryandrews.net, there's still more information I hope to have back up and running in 2013 (if we all don't die in December).
