One of the reasons I haven't been around is because it was too painful to put my laptop on my lap. My knee was seriously messed up and it seemed to be getting worse. Last night, it swelled up to the size of a basketball. So I decided that, if it were still causing me such trouble, I'd go to the ER. Today came and, even the swelling had gone down, I couldn't put any weight on it. Off the ER I went. They took more X-rays and shook their heads in horror. They suggested I get a can and gave me 10 Lortab, which won't do me any time at all. For the duration I have the meds and my knee isn't hurting, I'll be around. Otherwise, it's gonna be iffy if my knee goes back to hurting the way it was. I hate not having insurance. If I had insurance, that doctor I went to see a few months back would do the knee replacement.

It Gets Weirder
Nov. 23rd, 2010 08:05 pmA week or so ago, I got up the guts to message Bruce McRae on Vivienne Kent's Facebook. Vivienne is Barry Andrews' ex-wife and Finn Andrews' mum. They're still very good friends. Bruce McRae is a musician and goes far back with Barry, to 1979 or 1980. He also wrote the lyrics to "Dark Horses" for Thee Caretakers, one of my favourite songs. The problem is, I can't make out all the lyrics because the entire song is sung through a megaphone. I'd asked Barry about the lyrics many times, but I got no joy. He said that Bruce McRae wrote them, so he'd be the one to reach out to when it came to getting the lyrics. When he commented on the same thread on which I commented on Vivienne's Facebook, I saw my opening and asked him about the song. He sent me a private message wanting to know how I knew the people he knew, so I wrote him back telling him the entire strange tale of how I met Barry and how he gradually let me into his life and introduced me to friends. Bruce wrote me back with his personal email and we communicated at length about music and Canada, where he's from and where he currently lives.
He's a funny guy and very personable. He promised me that, as soon as he can find the lyrics to "Dark Horses," he would send them to me. He also sent me the link to his website which features his collection of poetry. From what I've read, he's an incredible wordmaster. And he's befriended me! I wrote an update on my knee and he wrote back, saying " were you fighting again? what did i tell you about that?....." I responded with "Bruce, it's an addiction. I'm a charter member of the Fight Club.." I think he'll get a kick out of that. Of all the people I've met through Barry Andrews, Bruce is, by far, the grooviest. Probably because he's Canadian. Heh!

I thought I'd be more!
