The World's on Fire
Jul. 5th, 2010 07:11 amNot really. It's just the title of the song I was listening to when began this post. It's one of my favourite newer Sarah McLachlan songs. I dug her "back in the day" when she was just getting her footing and was doodling her own album covers. Everybody's gotta start somewhere. I'm going to be proofreading today, hoping to get a large dent in The Augury of Gideon. Another thing that I must do by the weekend is my song-by-song review of the new Shriekback album. I'm just waiting on one song for which I have lyrics, but no tuneage. Once Barry or Stuart send me that, we'll be in business.
I have one final job to do for The Joker Blogs. When the final episode airs, I'm going to update the Facebook quiz to reflect all the episodes. Scottles released the second-to-last episode over the weekend, so I'm hoping I can close that door behind me this coming weekend. If he waits another three months, I'm going to glare menacingly either out west or in the direction of the Midwest, wherever he may be at the time. One way or another, he'll get a good glaring from me. It'll be my last, but it'll be worth it.
Okay, this is mindblowing. The man I want to play Cadmus, Tom Hardy, played a young Captain Picard in Star Trek: Nemesis. The young man I want to play Kallum, James McAvoy, is playing young Charles Xavier. The mind, she boggles. Neither of them really look like Patrick Stewart at all and both are quite handsome. I just don't know what to say about that. Again, the mind, she doth boggle.
Aunt Tudi found what looked like a teentsy scorpion on our bathroom floor. That fairly alarms me. I can get close enough to scorpions to kill them DEAD, but I'd prefer they not be in the house at all. Centipedes and millipedes are on a whole other level. If I ever see a grown one in the house, I'm leaving with the clothes on my back never to return. I'll just disappear, running and screaming into the night, even if the sun is shining. It'll be my dark night of the soul. Scorpions are one thing. Big grey worms with curtains for legs? You can have the house. I bequeath it to thee, foul beast from the depths of Hell.
Just as an aside, good proofreading music is the soundtracks from Children of Dune, Avatar, and Massive Attack's Mezzanine.

Other Things I May Do Today
Jul. 5th, 2010 08:00 amI may drag out the bodhran and tighten the skin a tad, practice my triplets. Ideally, I'd love to join Davis and Kathleen in some music making. Maybe even Hannah too. I miss the Celtic music community sometimes I just ache with it. Bear McCreary's more Scottish-centred pieces for Battlestar Galactica poke at my Celt nerve (we all have them, those with enough Celt in our blood that is) and I get the urge to poke back. I shall poke with a Triskele-decorated beater.
Also, I'd like to find a partial poem I wrote ages ago. It was a take off on "And to Think that I Saw It on Mulberry Street," but was called "Your Pet Goblins." It's spoken from the mother's point of view and each stanza ends with "Reuben, your little pet goblins must go." I never finished it and I was thinking it would be fun to finish and illustrate or have someone illustrate for me and we could share in the royalties if the book were excepted by Fey or some other publisher. It's a far cry from The Vampire Relics to be sure.
Another thing I want to do is update my wish list. Most of what's on there are things I just want. There's a couple of things I need for the life of the computer, which is pretty much my life line. Those items will be added and then I'm gonna spread my wish list around like warm honey butter. Sweet and succulent like.

"Pour me out a glass of sublime decay."
Jul. 5th, 2010 11:42 amI haven't proofread one damned word today. Personally, I think it may be some sort of psychological block that, once I've proofed the manuscript, the trilogy will actually be over. It's like sending your kid off to boarding school or your pet to a kennel for an extended period of time. I've lived with and loved so many of these characters for so long, I'm really not certain what I'll do without them. I guess I could write some drabbles and have Vampire short-story book, but I don't want something like that to be a detriment to the trilogy as a whole.
I could be doing the song-by-song for Barry, but I haven't the words for that yet. I still need to give the songs more of an intensive listen. Plus, he sprang an unexpected song on me just today, thus increasing the work, and this isn't even the songs that Carl is contributing. Someday, I'm gonna have to sit down with Mr. Marsh and enlighten him as to his influence on my naming my main Relics character. I think he'll be amused. He seems quite the affable sort. Martyn is the shy one. Dave is intimidating. And Barry is Barry.
Two bananas. Two bananas and some peanut butter are what I've had to eat since 5 this morning. I'd go for something more substantial, but I cannae be sussed. Every time I think of food, I go all o_0 and say "noooo thank youuu..." But I'd pinch you for some french fries right now. Chip-style on the Brighton coastline. Ohhhhh, I miss England! I could subsist on their sausages and chips until I die of artery cloggage (<---new word). I want to eat the Salmon of Knowledge avec le sauce hollaindaise. Instead, I'll drink rootbeer and think of Paul wishing he could get some. It's not fair. We should all have the opportunity to obtain the things we wish to have.
There is a kebab place down the street now. I'll have to check it out if I ever get any bloody money! The place is called Doner Kebab and it's a little kiosk set up right in front of Ingles grocery. It intrigues me because it reminds me of the food kiosks in England.
I swear, I'm more homesick for England now than I was in 2006.
falkenna says it gets no better. I just want my writing career to take off so I can run off to the West Country and write to my heart's content. I'd be willing to make just about any sacrifice to make that happen.

The Five Copies
Jul. 5th, 2010 12:40 pmFive copies of the book may not be enough. I may have to buy a couple in order to get everyone a copy of their own.
See the dilemma?
I also need to get a copy to show around town to see if local book shops would be interested in helping a local artist out. First place on my list is Malaprops in Asheville.
- Aunt Tudi
- The Mother Unit
- Barry Andrews
- Carl Marsh
- Jill Rosenburg
- Heidi Bowles-Ellis
- Heather P. Dunbar
