I'm pretty much a wreck. Yesterday, I got what I thought was just a bill from a radiology office and the doctor who read my MRI, but it also had a code, 784.0, in the diagnosis section of the bill. Aunt Tudi pointed it out to me late last night. So I got online to see if I could find anything and I was directed to severe headaches and multiple sclerosis, often in association with multiple sclerosis. Shit!! So now I'm worried and will remain that way until I see Dr. Pilch on 6 August. What if I have multiple sclerosis? What do I do? Can it be treated? Will I be able to continue work? Shit!!

**deep breath**

In other news, I finished Hannibal and now I'm pissed off all over again at the movie. Why didn't they hold true to the book and have Clarice join Dr. Lecter in his world of beauty and perfection? There was nothing left for her at the FBI and she knew it. The movie makes no sense. Were the filmmakers concerned that the fans would have a problem with Clarice and Lecter becoming an item? If so, they were so out of touch. The people who went to see Hannibal were fans of Dr. Hannibal Lecter. They would have cheered the new couple on! Idiots.

The next book I'm reading is Mr. B. Gone by none other than Clive Barker. I expect I'll be in for quite a ride. I may listen to lots of Shriekback while reading the book. When I first started reading Clive Barker, I had gotten into Shriekback, so the music and his words have merged as one in my mind. Maybe that's why I became so fearful of Barry. Who knows? "Night Town" is a very good soundtrack to Cabal, the book on which Nightbreed is based. To me Midian is "Night Town."

I've never watched the film Hannibal because I was told it would utterly ruin the ending I'd gained from the book.

So, never watched it. Never will, despite how deliciously scary Sir Anthony is.

He's wonderful in the movie, but the ending pisses me off every time.

I used to code for doctors. 784.0 is just a generic code for headache. Don't read too much into it.

It excludes migraines and tension headaches, and includes everything else. It's just the standard code for headache. No worries. If they though MS was involved, they would have coded other symptoms in that line and they would have talked to you about it. Ask your doctor if he or she has concerns in that area. I bet you'll get a raised eyebrow and a "What?"

Whew, thanks! How can they diagnose headache on an MRI, though?

It's not that they're diagnosing you exactly, it's that they're giving a reason that they're doing the MRI. It's like saying, "This person has a headache and we don't know why, but we're hoping the MRI will tell us." That's what most of the 700.0 codes are for.

No worries. I'm pretty sure MS has nothing to do with what they're looking at.

You'll be all right, Tin.

I have MS. It can be a big deal. It can be not a big deal at all. No point in worrying about it until you can see your scans with your doctor.

Thanks. I'll try not to worry too much, thanks to you guys. Are you able to work with your condition?

Oh yeah, I can work. I've got a host of odd neurological stuff going on with me. The doctors aren't sure it's MS, but they can't explain why I started going blind for about a month some years ago. I had 4-5 'almost' lesions, but on my next scan they were all gone.
I drive, I work, I herd kids around all day. I had about 2 months I wouldn't drive, after the going blind thing worked itself out. The migraines slow me down a lot while the 'possible MS' hasn't bothered me since I got pregnant with Zoe. (10 years ago now).
I'm friends with about 4 or 5 other women on LJ who are dealing with MS to one degree or other. They all work, some of them two jobs. In this day and age MS, while serious, isn't the horror it used to be. Additionally, with what's been happening to you and your age, if it is MS, you're likely not having many lesions in the brain. Earlier onset is much more serious. BTW, go read up on the history of MS, if you've a mind to, this is one weird ass disease, both in its history and who it picks to infect.

Of course it can be treated - there's at least two different types of shots available now. My hubby's on the daily version.

Yup. Very rarely has to use a cane, usually when it's super hot out. I've been trying to get him to get a parking sticker, but he won't do it yet. My mom has it too, from way back before more medications were invented, and she's in a wheelchair.

Codes are just that ...codes. I freaked out on seeing one once for Chris, called the doctor/surgeon and after I had a mini-freakout on some poor answering machine person, the doctor called me and told me not to worry, it wasn't cancer. It was ...well tmi ...won't go into it.

Take a deep breath, don't worry. *hugs*

Also my hostmum in London had MS and she and I went walking every day and she never needed a cane (she was over 50 then...under 60). However, I do remember the race to go an AC unit when the heat wave hit during the summer.

have you read "the great and secret show" or "everville" by Clive Barker? I'm reading them right now :)

I read Everville, but not the Great and Secret Show. That'll change, though.

That's funny, I too read Everville before the Great and Secret Show. It was just sitting around my house and I decided to read it. I wasn't very far in before I got the sinking feeling that it a sequel :)

is a generalized code for headache. It's a Not Otherwise Specified (NOS) code which means they are still scratching there heads about this.

Migraines and epilepsy often go hand in hand.

The not knowing what the hell is going on is the worse part. When the doc told me I had epilepsy I felt relived because I thought I was going crazy, KWIM? I need to freaking read more books. I has teh dumb!
