Lessee....

First, I want to declare that canned crab meat tastes like San Diego's ass water mixed with the unwashed juices emitting from an aged French whore. I will not attempt that again, nay nay nay.

Now that I have that out of the way, I can continue with my happy little post.

Aunt Tudi and I hit the road a little before 9 this morning and got to the Father Unit's shortly after 12. All we've done since is pretty much chitchat with each other while Aunt Tudi and the Father Unit play some sort of Roy Rogers pinball game from their childhood. The Stepmother Unit is with her mother in Irmo yucking it up for Easter, but the Father Unit couldn't accompany her because he had surgery on Monday and isn't recovered enough to travel. So here we are. This is the first Spring holiday I've spent with him since 1974. Whoa.

We're having tilapia for dinner. Why have I just recently started hearing about tilapia, like in the past couple of years? Was it called something else before that or is it a newly discovered edible fish? Or am I just ignorant?

Speaking of ignorance, I've decided that Shmoop is an idiot savant. She is so incredibly stupid in so many areas, but shines through in others. Actually, I think she believes she is a dog. She wants to eat dog food, she fights the dogs for their treats (especially Pupcorns), and she fetches. Her catly skills are sadly lacking and I do fear for her wellbeing when she's outside because, really, the cat doesn't have sense god gave a toenail. The last time we left the ladies at home to come down to the Father Unit's, we returned to find that Shmoop had shut herself and Motley up in the bathroom. Via the cunning methods of deduction, I surmised that they'd been trapped in there for around 12 hours. So, this time, I've blocked the door so she can't do that again, but they can still have access to the litter pan.

I'm seriously considering going to watch Pirates of the Caribbean on the Father Unit's gigantic TV. I'm not really all that fond of the movie, but I'd love to see Johnny Depp in pirate drag on a large screen. Surely that will give me nice dreams tonight. God knows I could use them.

Right now, I'm wrapped up in one of the Father Unit's long-sleeved shirts. Both the FU and Aunt Tudi are hotter than fire crackers and have turned the AC down to 60-something. Even though it's in the mid-90s outside, I'm sitting in here suffering from a chronic and probably fatal case of chicken pimplage.

I wrenched a quiz from [livejournal.com profile] serifem's hands and am posting it here. The other quizzes I had saved for my Friday Quiz Party are still on my laptop waiting to be posted. I feel like a dink forgetting to post them yesterday, but I have had difficulty figuring out what day it is all week. I may post them when I get home on Monday.

Michael
So you need Healing (50%), Knowledge (40%), Inspiration (30%), and Strength (68%)?
Archangel Michael is the Angel of Miracles who strengthens the spirit during difficult times or dangerous situations. He inspires patience, truth, righteousness, strength, faith, and motivation. His fundamental mission is to rid us of the toxins associated with fear, increase our ability to face up to challenging dilemmas and to give guidance and direction for people who feel lost or stuck with respect to their life’s purpose or career path.

Michael bestows those that have to do battle in their day to day life with the armour of unshakeable faith and confidence. Those “battles” may take place in court, in the form of competition among athletes, on the schoolyard, or in the attempt of protecting one’s children and loved ones. He is the Patron Angel of soldiers, policemen and fire-fighters, guiding and guarding them as they protect us.

Michael's symbol is the halo, representing the purest energies of the crown chakra. Focusing on the themes of non-judgment and successfully "navigating" within the ethereal realms (for telepathy, channelling, conscious ethereal travel, etc.), Michael is the first Angel to step forward to offer his assistance.

A Bit of Trivia:

Michael is one of the four greatest Archangels, the other three being Raphael, Gabriel, and Uriel. He corresponds with the Fire signs, Sagittarius, Aries, and Leo. He is the Angel of the Sun, and thus ruler of Sunday, the day of success and radiating charisma. Michael can be seen on the Tarot card Key 14 – Temperance, which shows him monitoring the transformation of spirit into matter, and back into spirit. Some say that the card actually shows Gabriel, as cups and water are his symbols.

Jophiel - Michael - Israfel - Raziel - Ariel - Uriel - Gabriel - Raphael - Zadkiel - Jeremiel

Tilapia

I had the same question about tilapia. I had never heard of it until a few years ago. I first started getting it at the Garners cafe. I love it. Of course, I can't seem to cook it as well as they do. I like the Killer Fish sandwich at Ruby Tuesdays too.

Looks like it used to be called whitefish.

I looked in the Oxford Companion to Food (1999) and this is what it says:
"a name applied to various species of freshwater fish in the genera Tilapia and Sarotherodon, especially S. mossambicus and S. niloticus. Both belong to E. Africa, but the natural range of the latter extends northwards to the Nile and to Israel and Syria."

"Both species are good food fishes, not too bony, and have now been introduced to many other areas, especially in Asia, for culture in ponds. This kind of fish farming has acquired considerable commercial importance. S. niloticus, the larger and faster growing of the two species, can reach a length of 50 cm (20") and a weight of over 6 kg (14 lb)."

Here's the wikipedia article on Tilapia

Thank you so much for the info! I feel much more enlightened now and won't be kicking myself for not knowing diddly when it comes suppertime.

See you on the 22nd, kiddo. Can't wait!

Tilapia use to be an extremely seasonal game fish. The reason it has recently come into popularity is because they have managed to successfully produce a farm-raised colony, increasing availability and decreasing price.

How are you aware of these flavors for comparison?

Well, I've been to San Diego and...... ::looks about furtively::

Never mind.

Why do they refer to Michael as a he, when the body of the angelic host is quite clearly female? I am most confused.

I saw Robin Wood Tarot today, and thought of you. But I know you must have your set, as opposed to a new set with the same peekchures. I bought myself a set of rune cards. Why would they put runes on cards? Why not just tell how to read the runes? I don't know, but it's distressing.

Ewww -- I really like that picture, but as a Michael, it sucks mighty big ones.

I think I know where my deck is, but it's just a matter of digging through the closet for half a day. Oy....

Runes should be on wood or stone, IMHO, but I can see how cards could be very convenient, even for myself. Let me know how those cards work out for you.

[identity profile] sapphirescarlet.livejournal.com 2006-04-16 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I am loving them right now! The cards have futhark runes on them, so they are giving me more information - they include the number of the rune, and a picture to describe it's meaning, plus they came with a book of description, which is QUITE helpful. I think they will help me learn the runes, so that eventually I will be able to read them without the book.

I have two sets of runes - one futhark - that I saw at the witchy store and felt compelled to buy without instruction, and one witches set, with just 12.

The witches runes are done on sea stones, by hand, and I'm just not comfortable with them, even tho I created them myself, from stones I found myself. Hardly anything 'clicks', you know? I pick up tarot deck after deck, and nothing. I did see ONE set on which I liked the artwork, but they were a bit out of my price range. Time, I guess will tell. If they linger in my mind, I'll save my money and get them. I've always been a quibbering coward over owning tarot, so it will take time to adjust to the idea, I believe.
