Sui Generis

Lately, I've noticed that I have a one-track mind. For the past six week, I've eaten, drunk, breathed, and slept The Chalice and Cadmus Pariah. Even thought I'm certain it's irritating to most everyone who reads this journal, I think it's the best thing I could be doing right now. Over the years my mind has been so scattered that I was incapable of focusing on the story, much less write any of it down. Now is the perfect time for me.
After speaking with
falkenna yesterday, it's come to my attention that the development of Cadmus' motivations aren't as clear as they perhaps should be. His background is the focus of "Sui Generis," though, so I'm seriously considering doctoring the unfinished short story and making it a chapter in The Chalice. This way, I wouldn't feel obligated to finish the short story itself and it would serve to explain Cadmus a bit more and why he does what he does at the end of the book. Besides, the story is already referenced in Kelat's letter to Thaddeus. I think it'd work out just fine.
I may also break down and include this little vignette to further express how ghastly Cadmus truly is.
("we hold the life in one hand as the one who bakes the bread, the erection at the hanging and the tearing off of heads, stand elated at the burning, all our murders look the same, we are the thought and the display, the explanation and the side effect")
He has always seemed to thrive better in "literary photographs" than in the arc story in my head. My theory is that, if I piece all the vignettes and story bits together, it should pretty much flesh out the "realness" in Cadmus. So we'll see.
