what I can't seem to grasp is the fact that he thinks it is okay for us to GO AFTER the terrorists, threatening to kill them, yet at the same time, he is saying they need to STOP killing? It is irony at it's best to say the least? How can you kill people while screaming STOP it.

Finally got around to looking up ideology:
1. The body of ideas reflecting the social needs and aspirations of an individual, group, class, or culture.
2. A set of doctrines or beliefs that form the basis of a political, economic, or other system.

Which goes some way to explaining why we were falling over the negative connotations the word has for us, and why it scares us a little. (And looking up doctrine leads us to dogma, and dogma is the scariest word of all.)
