tinhuvielartanis: (Snow)
When I got up a little before 8 this morning and looked out, it was snowing heavily and there were about 7 inches lying on the ground. It's now 11 and there's at least 10 inches out there now. Toby has yet to go out since his morning bathroom run. Riley and Chester went out again at 8 with Fitzgerald, who has been out several times since then. He loves the snow and has been literally romping around in the yard like a little idiot. Of course, he doesn't stay out long and then he comes in all hyped for a few minutes before he wants to cuddle and get warm.

I was supposed to go get my meds today, but I can't get out of my driveway. I called the pharmacy and they're closing early today and may not be in tomorrow because we're supposed to get a layer of ice on top of the snow once the snow stops. I guess I'll just do without until Wednesday or Thursday. I may try to get my cousin or a friend who has better access to the roads to go get the meds for me. It depends on how bad the roads really are, especially tomorrow.

This storm is comparable to the one we had in 1988, when we got over a foot of snow and the Upstate shut down for a week. I was awake when that storm came in, working on third shift at BMG. The snow was coming down so fast and so hard, we all clamoured to go home before we got stuck at work. Timothy told us that he'd go out to the parking lot and, if he did a doughnut in his Cherokee Chief, he'd let us all leave. We all stood at the dock doors and watched him brave the flakes to get to his ride. He got in and picked up speed across the parking lot, then slammed on his brakes. Doughnut achieved! We all cheered as Tim sped across the parking lot again and did another doughnut just for the hell of it. I remember driving home that night, how the snow looked like a strange, acid-induced kaleidescope coming at me in the windshield. I got home safely and was there for week, eating snow cream and having snowball fights with my cousins Michael and Johnna.

Later, I may go out and make a snow angel 'cos this may be my only chance to do so for another 23 years, unless I get to move to Maine like I wish I could.
