tinhuvielartanis: (Cadmus Pariah)
I've created a primary playlist for my pending writing venture.

I haven't completed it by a longshot, but it's a beginning. It is, of course, comprised primarily of Shriek music, but there's also some Fluke, Thomas Dolby, Jan Hammer, KLF (nods enthusiastically to the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] wraithenjade), Ultravox and, of course, Rob D.

Despite Cadmus being born from my twisted thoughts while listening to "Deeply Lined Up," his true theme song is "Clubbed to Death" by Rob Dougan. The majesty and darkness of this song matches Cadmus' stride. It's fluid and royal in nature, held together with a liquid menace that is also quite inviting, calming even. I expect I'll be listening to "Clubbed to Death" quite often over the next few weeks. Actually, I find it comforting that this song defines Cadmus more than any other, especially a Shriekback song. It proves that, despite his origins, Cadmus is sentient unto himself and doesn't depend on anyone, perhaps even including myself, for his existence. Maybe that shouldn't so much a comforting thought than an alarming one.

I also need to add some Enya and Oingo Boingo to the mix, although I'm seriously considering not even including Orphaeus Cygnus in The Chalice. He was, after all, a peripheral character at best created to juice up the back story that never fully gets told. But it would be a shame not to find some way to include his being scalped and even crucified by Cadmus Pariah, especially after the latest nugget of insight brought to me by [livejournal.com profile] falkenna. No, I don't want to see Orphaeus suffer. I rather like Orphaeus as much as I adore his patron, but......

I'd like to include "Sea Theory" on the playlist, but I've lost the demo I had and am waiting my chance to order the new Shriek CD. I don't know if I'll be sent a complimentary copy, but I will most assuredly be buying one regardless to help The Great Cause. Far be it for anyone to ever call me a freeloader. That just won't do.

Over the past few days, I've been reading over the notes I've made over the years, revisiting Kelat and Thanatos, and wondering if some will see the parallels in what was once my attempt to deal with communing with my soul mate and knowing that I'd literally have to die in order to have another chance to be with him. There's a special pain that comes from such a realisation, a distinct deathwish attitude. Some of this material I've not read in a decade. I look at myself now and how much healthier I am and I wonder if it's wise to even rekindle the story of Kelat and Thanatos. How can I not, though? It's a central theme.

The struggles between love and duty, passion and independence, the Old Ways and the New Religion, good and evil, right and wrong, life and death, freedom and karma. They're my struggles that I still haven't fully addressed. Maybe it's time. Maybe not. At least now, I'm willing to try.

merchant
MERCHANT

You are a Merchant, the
ambitious business tycoons of fantasy.
Merchants are very intelligent and cunning.
They are adept with numbers and in dealing with
people. Their hunches about their businesses
are usually right. They have a knack for
knowing what people or thinking. They are very
perceptive, and very ambitious. Driven and
hardworking they will not stop until they've
achieved what they want.

I am not having a Dumb Supper this year to honour those who've gone before. For some reason, I don't feel it is appropriate for this Samhain. Yes, I will honour the ancestors as a great Whole Unknowable Power from whence I came and of which I am a part, but I am not comfortable with the looking back of it all. I want the new year to be new and I want the essence of my Samhain observance to reflect that.

So. No Dumb Supper.

I'm not very certain how I will observe Samhain, but it won't be the way I've done it in years past.
