Cathy and Diane picked up Aunt Tudi at lunchtime and met me at El Molcajete for lunch. They were buying me lunch for my birthday, bless 'em! Not only did they buy me lunch, but they also gave me a pretty little story book about Faeries and a deep burgandy plush cushion, which will find a place of honour on my bed.
We had a great meal and even better conversation. It is always so good to see them and it never fails to make me long mightily for the Good Old Days (tm) when we all worked together and The Pit was more like a home with loving family members. Bleh... I miss that.
So we decided to get dessert. Cathy, Diane, and Aunt Tudi all ordered sopapilla, but I had to be the oddball and ask for fried ice cream. When they brought out the dessert, a bevy of Mexican came along singing 'Happy Birthday' in Spanish! One of them place a bodacious straw hat upon my head and another took a picture of me. OY! That has never happened to me. I've always been able to avoid being sung to in public, but no longer can I claim that.
I do like the hat though. I'm wearing it right now here at work and, oh the strange gazes I'm getting! Perhaps I'll fill it full of fruit one day and go around offering people snacks. "Banana anyone? Mango? Kiwi fruit? Grapes? Do dig in!"
